CSC Academic All-America® and All-District
THE AWARD
Each year, the All-America® program presented by the College Sports Communicators (formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America) selects 816 distinguished student-athletes to become part of an honorary team in their respective sports — football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's swimming & diving, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's cross country/track & field, softball and women's volleyball. The men’s and women’s at-large teams include all remaining NCAA championship sports.
From the start of the program through the spring of 2022, student-athletes were first voted to the Academic All-District Teams, with the first-team honorees being eligible to be earn Academic All-America® Team which was voted on by the Academic All-America committee. At the start of the 2022-23 academic year, all student-athletes nominated for the program were auotmatically named to the Academic All-District team. A sub-committee of the Academic All-America committee narrowed down the nominees who advanced to the Academic All-America ballot.
HISTORY
Since 1952, CSC has honored more than 20,000 outstanding student-athletes with this prestigious award, which was known as the Academic All-America®. The program used to select teams from just two divisions — the University Division, comprised of Division I schools; and the College Division, which included Division II, Division III, NAIA schools, and 2-year colleges. To better honor the diversity of collegiate talent, the program was expanded in 2011 to include four divisions: NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III, and College division which includes NAIA, two-year colleges, and Canadian schools. There have also been a number of corporate sponsors, inluding Verizon, ESPN The Magazine, Capital One and Google Cloud, throughout the history of the program.
