Leon earns First Team Academic All-America® honors
Olivet College senior forward Isabelle Leon has earned 2017 First Team College Sports Information Director of America Academic All-America® honors.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior forward Isabelle Leon has earned 2017 First Team College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® honors.
Leon carries a 3.94 grade point average in criminal justice. Off the soccer field, she is the secretary for the criminal justice honors society and vice president for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Leon has been named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll three times.
On the soccer pitch, Leon started all 21 games this season. She led the Comets in every statistical category with 17 goals, 11 assists, 45 points, six game-winning goals, 77 shots and 53 shots-on-goal. For her performance, Leon was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Most Valuable Player. A three-time first-team All-MIAA pick, she concluded her four-year career in a Comet uniform tied for the most assists (26), and the third-most goals (52) and points (130).
Leon helped the women's soccer team end the 2017 season with a 13-7-1 overall record, including a second-place finish in the MIAA standings with an 11-5 record. In addition, Olivet advanced to the MIAA Tournament championship game for just the second time in school history, while the 13 wins matched the 2010 team for the third-most victories in a season in school history.
Leon, a 2016 Third Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® selection, is only the second women's soccer player in school history to be named to the Academic All-America® teams. The other was Jenna Mayle who was a third-team pick in 2013. Overall, Leon earns the 32nd CoSIDA Academic All-America® award in school history.
The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
