OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College junior running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) has been named to the 2004 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division second-team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He advanced to the national ballot after earning first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honors.
Sleight carries a 3.96 grade point average with a double major in health, physical education, recreation and sport, and mathematics. A 2004 first-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection, Sleight finished the season with 127 rushes for 694 yards and 16 touchdowns. Sleight was named first-team Academic All-District in 2003 and was selected to the 2002-03 and 2003-04 MIAA Honor Roll.
Sleight is the third Olivet student-athlete to be named to a national Academic All-America team. In 2002, men's golfer Scott Miller was selected to the Academic All-America At-Large third-team and in 1992, Darren Zwick was selected to the Academic All-America Men's Basketball second-team.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program recognizes student-athletes who have succeeded on the field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected by votes from members of CoSIDA. To be eligible, the student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.0.
