Wernette earns Academic All-District IV honors
Olivet College sophomore Cortney Wernette (Remus/Chippewa Valley) has been named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Softball first-team.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Cortney Wernette (Remus/Chippewa Valley) has been named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Softball first-team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She advances to the CoSIDA College Division Academic All-America® ballot.
A business administration major, Wernette has a 3.54 grade point average. She played in 23 games, including 21 starts for the Comets, and recorded a .348 batting average. Wernette also walked 14 times for a .500 on-base percentage, scored 15 runs and was a perfect 8-for-8 in steal attempts.
Off the softball field, Wernette is a member of the Math Club and Hosford Society of Scholars. She has been on the college's Dean's List two times. In 2009, Wernette was named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Academic Honor Roll and earned National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation Scholar-Athlete honors.
Wernette is the daughter of John and Dawn Wernette.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
