Three Olivet College student-athletes named to 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV teams
Three Olivet College student-athletes have been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV teams as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Three Olivet College student-athletes have been named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV teams as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America. Seniors Ryan Adams (Middleville/Thornapple Kellogg) and Ken Lackscheide(Vermontville/Maple Valley) were named to the football second-team, while juniorJessica Petkus (Milford) was named to the volleyball third-team.
The District IV teams are nominated and selected by sports information directors in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve with a 3.20 or higher cumulative grade point average (GPA).
Adams has a 3.35 GPA in insurance/risk management. He has played in six games for the Comets, recording 23 tackles. Adams is tied for the team lead with eight tackles for loss yardage. Lackscheide carries a 3.66 GPA in insurance/risk management. Before suffering a season-ending injury Oct. 28, he punted the ball 29 times for a 40.1 average with a long of 57 yards. In addition, ten punts landed inside the opponent's 20-yard line.
The Comets (5-4) conclude their season Saturday, Nov. 11, when they travel to play Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
Petkus has a perfect 4.0 GPA with a major in English and minor in mathematics. As the starting setter for the Comets, she played in 26 matches and 80 games. Petkus finished the season a team-high 600 assists along with 240 digs, 41 kills, 11 service aces and 23 blocks.
