Olivet College’s Plourde earns Academic All-America® second-team honors
Recent Olivet College graduate Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) has earned 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III At-large second-team honors, as selected by the CoSIDA.
OLIVET, Mich. – Recent Olivet College graduate Adrienne Plourde (Livonia/Redford Thurston) has earned 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III At-large second-team honors, as selected by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA). The at-large teams recognize student-athletes who competed in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
A sports recreation management major, Plourde graduated with a 3.89 grade point average. A four-year letterwinner on the women's golf team, she was a four-time All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association selection, including a three-time first-team honoree. In 2013, Plourde was named the MIAA's Most Valuable Golfer, averaging 77.2 strokes over six league rounds to lead Olivet to its third straight MIAA championship. During the spring, Plourde helped the Comets win the MIAA Playoff to earn their third trip to the NCAA DIII National Championships, where they placed 11th of 21 teams in 2014. Overall in 26 rounds this season, she averaged 79.2 strokes. For her performance, Plourde also earned honorable mention All-American and All-Great Lakes Region honors from the Women's Golf Coaches Association. She finished her career with an 82.4 stroke average over 96 rounds, with a low round of 73 on three occasions.
Off the golf course, Plourde was the station manager for WOCR 89.1 FM, Olivet's campus radio station. She was also a member of the President's Leadership Institute, Phi Epsilon Kappa, media board, and lecture & symposium committee. Plourde was named to the Olivet President's List (perfect 4.0 GPA) six semesters and Dean's List for the other two semesters.
Plourde is the 17th Olivet student-athlete in school history, and the second women's golfer, to earn Academic All-America® honors. She is the fourth Olivet student-athlete to be an Academic All-America® selection this academic year. Women's soccer player Jenna Mayle earned third-team honors, women's basketball player Chelsea Ciba earned first-team honors and wrestler Jeff Holm earned third-team honors. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 19,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
