Sleight named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division first-team
Olivet College senior running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division first-team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College senior running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) has been named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division first-team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Sleight earned second-team Academic All-America® honors in 2004.
Sleight has a 3.94 grade point average in health, physical education, recreation and sport. A 2005 first-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection, Sleight finished the season with 184 rushes for 1,108 yards and eight touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
Sleight ends his four-year tenure as Olivet's all-time leader in touchdowns scored in a game (7), season (20) and career (51). His career statistics include 2,814 rushing yards, 820 receiving yards, 50 punt return yards, 656 kickoff returns yards for 4,340 total all-purpose yards.
Sleight is also the recipient of the 2005 MIAA Pete Schmidt Scholar-Athlete Award. Furthermore, he was named 2003, 2004 and 2005 first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District IV and was selected to the 2002-03, 2003-04 and 2004-05 MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® program recognizes student-athletes who have excelled on the field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected by votes from the members of CoSIDA. To be eligible, the student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.0.
