Lansang earns Academic All-America® honors
Olivet College senior midfielder Andrew Lansang (Rock Springs, Wyo.) has been named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division Men’s Soccer third-team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College senior midfielder Andrew Lansang (Rock Springs, Wyo.) has been named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division Men's Soccer third-team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Lansang advanced to the national ballot after earning first-team Academic All-District IV honors.
Lansang carries a 4.0 grade point average in insurance. During the 2007 season, he saw action in every game (20) for the Comets, finishing the year with two assists. Lansang was selected as the recipient of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award. The award is presented annually to a senior men's soccer player for his contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics.
Lansang ended his four-year career at Olivet by playing in 68 games. For his career, he had two goals and five assists for nine points.
Off the soccer field, Lansang is a member of the Gamma Iota Sigma insurance honorary society where he has served as the vice president for portfolio for the last two years. He has also earned the Associate in Insurance Services (AIS) designation from the Insurance Institute of America.
Lansang is the eighth student-athlete in school history and the seventh in the last five years to earn Academic All-America honors.
The Academic All-America® Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA; a 2,000-member organization consisted of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
