Olivet College’s Holm named Academic All-America® third-team
Recent Olivet College graduate Jeff Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III At-large third-team, as selected by the CoSIDA.
OLIVET, Mich. – Recent Olivet College graduate Jeff Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) has been named to the 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III At-large third-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA). The at-large teams recognize student-athletes who competed in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
A biology major with pre-medicine concentration, Holm graduated with a 3.895 grade point average. A member of the wrestling team, he placed second at the 2014 NCAA Midwest Regional to qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championships at 184 pounds. Holm finished his senior season with a 30-14 record. Overall in four years at Olivet, he had a 71-32 record despite missing his entire sophomore season with a torn ACL. Holm is also a two-time National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete.
Off the wrestling mat, Holm was a member of Alpha Phi Upsilon (biology honor society). He also received the Olivet Donald A. Morris award for being one of the top five graduating seniors.
Holm is the 16th Olivet student-athlete in school history, and the second wrestler, to earn Academic All-America® honors. He is the fourth Olivet student-athlete to be an Academic All-America® selection this academic year. Women's soccer player Jenna Mayle earned third-team honors, women's basketball player Chelsea Ciba earned first-team honors and golfer Adrienne Plourde earned second-team honors. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 19,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
