OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior Emma Essen has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® VI Women's Soccer team, selected by College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA). She now advances to the 2018 Google Cloud NCAA Division III Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team selections will be announced in early December.
Essen started 18 games for the Comets and led them in virtually every offensive category, including 11 goals, 24 points, 50 shots and 35 shots-on-goal. A two-time All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection, she ended her career at Olivet with 32 goals and 12 assists for 76 points.

Essen has been on the Dean's List every semester, and President's List twice.
Essen is the 10th women's soccer player in school history to earn Academic All-District honors. The others were Ann Marie Keisic (2006), Shannah Fisher (2006, 2007), Natalie Lopez (2007), Nicole Babcock (2008), Justine Zachos (2010), Jenna Mayle (2013), Madeline Maxwell (2015), Isabelle Leon (2016, 2017) and Ann Fetzer (2017).
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Olivet is in District VI, which includes schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
