OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior defender Ann Fetzer and senior forward Isabelle Leon have been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Director of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District VI Women's Soccer team. Both are now eligible to earn CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-America® honors, where first-, second- and third-team selections will be announced in early December.
Fetzer started all 21 games for the Comets this season. She logged nearly every minute at the center-back position. Fetzer made the clinching penalty kick goal in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament semifinals. She was also named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week following Olivet's two wins against regionally-ranked opponents.
The 2017 MIAA Most Valuable Player, Leon started all 21 games and led the Comets in every statistical category with 17 goals, 11 assists, 45 points, 77 shots and 53 shots-on-goal. She also notched six game-winning goals. In 2016, Leon earned CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-America® honors after being a CoSIDA Academic All-District VI selection. A three-time first-team All-MIAA pick, she ended her Olivet career tied for the most assists (26), and third-most goals (52) and points (130).
Fetzer and Leon helped the women's soccer team finish the 2017 season with a 13-7-1 overall record and place second in the MIAA standings with an 11-5 mark. Olivet advanced to the MIAA Tournament championship game for only the second time in school history, and the 13 wins ties for the third-most victories in a season in school history.
An actuarial science major, Fetzer carries a 3.97 grade point average (GPA). Off the soccer field, she is a member of Member of Gamma Iota Sigma, Global Citizens Honors Program and Mathletes, and Vice President for Association of Women in Mathematics. Fetzer was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
A criminal justice major, Leon has a 3.94 GPA. Off the soccer field, she serves as secretary for the criminal justice honors society and vice president for Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Leon is a three-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll selection.
Fetzer and Leon have earned the 79th and 80th CoSIDA Academic All-District award since 2003.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Olivet is in District VI, which includes schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
