Sleight named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV first-team
Olivet College sophomore running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV first-team.
OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College sophomore running back Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview High School) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District IV first-team. Sleight advances to the national Academic All-America ballot. The District IV teams are selected by sports information directors in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee.
In addition, junior defensive lineman Ryan Fried (Grosse Pointe/Northern High School) and sophomore offensive lineman Todd Stafford (Holland/West Ottawa High School)were selected to the second-team.
Sleight has a 3.94 grade point average (GPA) in the health, physical education, recreation and sport major and leads the team in scoring with 60 points. He has carried the ball 59 times for 339 yards and eight touchdowns, caught five passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns, returned 13 kickoffs for 229 yards and returned eight punts for 50 yards. Sleight has 793 all-purpose yards, which ranks second on the team. He also tied the Olivet single-game records with four touchdowns against Adrian College on Oct. 25.
Fried, who has a 3.895 GPA in business administration, has seen action in the last six games after missing the first three games due to injury. He has been credited with eight tackles, including a tackle for loss. Stafford, who carries a 3.767 GPA in secondary education, has seen action at the left guard position on the offensive line. He helps block for the Olivet rushing attack, which ranks second among all NCAA divisions of college football at 374.4 yards per game.
The Fighting Comets (4-5) will end the 2003 season on Saturday, Nov. 15, when they travel to Milwaukee to play Wisconsin Lutheran College. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. EST.
