OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College seniors Brooke Coshow (Niles/Brandywine) and Christine Daub (Hudson) have been named to the Capital One® Academic All-District VI softball team, selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). By virtue of the honor, they also move onto the national CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot.
Coshow, who carries a 3.85 grade point average (GPA) in sports and recreation management, started the first six games of the season at shortstop before suffering an ankle injury. She bounced back from the injury, but was limited to being in the starting lineup at designated player for 18 of her final 21 games of the season. Coshow finished the year with a .260 batting average to go along with five doubles, four home runs, 13 runs scored and 13 RBI.
Daub, who has a 3.43 GPA in sports and recreation management, started 32 games behind the plate and led the Comets in almost every offensive statistical category, including batting average (.415), runs scored (20), hits (39), doubles (10), RBI (21), total bases (51), slugging percentage (.543) and on-base percentage (.495). From her catcher's position, Daub had a .960 fielding percentage and threw out 13 runners trying to steal base. Of the 13 stolen bases against her, only four were outright steals, as the other nine were on first and third situations.
"This is a well-deserved honor for Brooke and Christine," said Olivet Head Coach James Farnum. "They have exhibited what it means to be a student-athlete with their performance on the field and in the class room. I am very happy they received this recognition."
