Five men’s and women’s swimmers earn CSC Academic All-District® honors
OLIVET, Mich. – Five members of The University of Olivet men's and women's swimming teams have been named to the 2024-25 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® team. The honorees are junior Kelsee Lawson, senior Bridgette Shroll, and sophomore Sophia Spahr from the women's team, and junior Matthew Brown and Treyton Gabrielson from the men's team. Lawson and Shroll are earning this honor for a second consecutive season.
To be selected to the Academic All-District® team, the swimmer must have a 3.50 or higher cumulative grade point average and finished in the top eight of one event at the conference championship meet OR swam in five meets this season.
Lawson, a financial planning major, swam primarily the distance freestyle as well as butterfly events in 2024-25. At the MIAA Championships, she finished eighth in the 200 fly with a season-best time of 2:32.97. Lawson's other season best times at the championships were 1:08.58 in the 100 fly and 5:52.94 in the 500 free. Her career-best times are 5:48.78 in the 500 free, 12:22.11 in the 1000 free, 19:56.30 in the 1650 free, 1:06.54 in the 100 fly and 2:32.97 in the 200 fly.
Shroll, a biology major, competed primarily in the breaststroke and freestyle events this season. She swam season-best times in her three events at the MIAA Championships, including an eighth-place finishing time of 2:39.27 in the 200 breast. Shroll's other times were 1:10.32 in the 100 breast and 5:29.41 in the 500 free. Her personal best times include several UOlivet all-time top 10 times, including eighth in the 200 free (1:58.95), seventh in the 500 free (5:20.75), third in 100 breast (1:08.53) and third in 200 breast (2:27.08).
Spahr, an exercise science major, swam in the freestyle, backstroke and IM events. At the 2025 MIAA Championships, she posted a career-best time of 5:02.10 in the 400 IM, which ranks ninth in UOlivet history. Spahr also recorded lifetime bests in the 1650 free (19:18.41) and 200 backstroke (2:17.88).
Brown, a business administration concentration major, swam in the freestyle events this season. He had season-best times of 1:54.98 in the 200, 5:12.56 in the 500 and 18:11.01 in the 1,650 at the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. Brown's career-best times are 24.91 seconds in the 50, 51.85 seconds in the 100 free, 1:53.63 in the 200, 5:06.66 in the 500, 10:52.47 in the 1000 and 17:40.64 in the 1650.
Gabrielson, a criminal justice major, primarily swam in the freestyle and butterfly events for the Comets. His best times this season were 4:56.95 in the 500 free, 17:23.18 in the 1650 free and 2:00.04 in the 200 fly at the MIAA Championships. Gabrielson's career-best times are 23.76 seconds in the 50 free, 50.64 seconds in the 100 free, 1:50.43 in the 200 free, 4:56.60 in the 500 free, 10:43.72 in the 1000 free, 17:23.18 in the 1650 free, 54.65 in the 100 fly and 2:00.04 in the 200 fly.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's and women's swimming & diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced later this month. The Division III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2024-25 Division III Academic All-America® programs.
