OLIVET, Mich. – Recent Olivet College graduate Jalen Weaver has been named to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Men's Track and Field/Cross Country first-team, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America. He moves up to the first team after being a second-team selection in 2013-14.
Weaver graduated magna cum laude with a 3.8119 grade point average in exercise science. In March, he became the first Olivet student-athlete in school history to earn NCAA All-American honors with a sixth-place finish in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
In addition, Weaver captured the 800-meter title for a second straight year at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day. He also ran on the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay. Those performances helped Weaver earn All-MIAA honors for a second consecutive year.
He holds the school-record holder in the 800 indoors (1:53.15) and outdoors (1:52.43). Weaver is also the indoor record-holder in the 400-meter dash (:51.46), 600-meter run (1:22.21), and 1,000-meter run (2:35.92). He also ran legs of the indoor record-holding 4x400-meter and distance medley relays.
Weaver earns the 25th Academic All-America® award in Olivet history. He is the 10th first-team selection and the fifth student-athlete to earn two Academic All-America® awards.
