Leon named to CoSIDA Academic All-America® team
Olivet College junior Isabelle Leon has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Women’s Soccer Team. She is a third-team pick.
AUSTIN, Texas – Olivet College junior Isabelle Leon has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® Division III Women's Soccer Team. She is a third-team pick.
Leon is a criminal justice major and carries a 3.92 grade point average. Off the field, she serves as secretary for the criminal justice honors program and vice president for the campus ministries group. Leon was named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll twice.
Leon started all 19 games at the forward position for the Comets. A two-time first-team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) selection, she led the team in every offensive statistical category, including goals (15), assists (6), points (36), shots (89) and shots-on-goal (41) during the 2016 season.
Leon scored the game-winning goal in Olivet's season-opening win against Bluffton (Ohio) University and later in the season in win over Trine (Ind.) University. She also had a hat track in a win at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College.
In her three seasons at Olivet, Leon has started 56-of-58 games played and has 35 goals and 15 assists for 85 points. The 35 goals and 85 points are the fifth-most in school history.
Leon is the second women's soccer player in school history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams. The other was Jenna Mayle in 2013. Overall, Leon earns the CoSIDA 29th Academic All-America® citation in Olivet history.
The CoSIDA Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2016-17 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
