Three players earn All-MIAA Softball honors

Three Olivet College student-athletes have earned 2004 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) softball honors. Senior first baseman Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School) and junior shortstop Beth Shunkwiler (Berrien Center/Berrien Springs High School)were selected first-team All-MIAA. Junior pitcher/outfielder Jenn Newland (Tekonsha High School) earned second-team honors.

Softball team splits doubleheader at Huntington (Ind.);

The Olivet College softball team split a doubleheader this afternoon at non-league foe Huntington (Ind.) College. The Lady Comets (19-15) lost the first game, 9-8, in eight innings. They rebounded to win the nightcap, 8-0, which ended after five innings because of the mercy rule.

Softball team sweeps Rochester, 9-0 and 10-0; Anderson & Green combine to throw no-hitter in game one

Four Olivet College pitchers limited non-league foe Rochester College to one hit as the Lady Comet softball swept a doubleheader from the Warriors this afternoon, 9-0 and 10-0. With the sweep, Olivet has an 18-12 overall record and are two wins shy of tying the school single-season record.

Softball team sweeps doubleheader against Defiance (Ohio), 11-1 and 10-2

The Olivet College softball team banged out 23 base hits and scored 21 runs en route to a doubleheader sweep at home against non-league foe Defiance (Ohio) College. The Lady Comets won 11-1 and 10-2 with both contests ending after five innings because of the eight-run mercy rule.

The Olivet College softball team split a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader against Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College this afternoon in Olivet. The Lady Comets (13-11, 6-6 MIAA) lost the first game, 8-6. They banged out 11 hits to win the nightcap, 3-2.

Horanburg named MIAA Softball Player of the Week

Olivet College senior first baseman Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Player of the Week. She led the Lady Comets (12-10, 5-5 MIAA) to a perfect 6-0 record last week, including doubleheader sweeps against MIAA foes Kalamazoo and Adrian colleges.

The Olivet College softball team extended its winning streak to six games this afternoon at home with a doubleheader sweep against Manchester (Ind.) College. The Lady Comets won the first game, 9-1, in six innings and won the nightcap, 8-4.

The Olivet College softball team scored four unearned runs in the 11th inning and defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Hope College, 5-1, this afternoon at Buys Field in Holland. The second game was suspended because of darkness.

Yesterday’s suspended softball game at Hope College has been deemed an official game with the Flying Dutch defeating Olivet, 3-1. The game was shortened to five innings because of darkness.
