Men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams place fifth and sixth at MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams have placed fifth and sixth at the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. The Comet men totaled 196 points over the four days of competition, while the women finished with 155 points.

HOLLAND, Mich. –The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams have placed fifth and sixth at the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships. The Comet men totaled 196 points over the four days of competition, while the women finished with 155 points.
FOR THE MEN
- Freshman Zach Meharg finished 13th in the 200 butterfly with a season-best time of 2:09.59. Sophomore Bryan Plesner placed 16th in the same event at 2:19.42.
- Plesner was 14th in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.59.
- Senior Zak Gray clocked-in with a season-best time of 2:27.05 in the 200 breaststroke to place 16th.
- The 400 freestyle relay team of freshman Eric Wood, sophomore Lucas Bunn, Meharg and freshman Tom Decker capped the championships with a fifth-place finish at 3:24.41.
- Bunn and Decker posted season-best times of 51.33 and 53.63 seconds, respectively, in the preliminaries of the 100 freestyle.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Freshman Abbie Slater placed 11th in the one-meter diving with 258.80 points.
- Sophomore Samantha Butler took 15th-place in the 200 backstroke with a career-best time of 2:31.82.
- Freshman Amelia Tomalka was 16th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.44 seconds.
- Senior Nicole Zerfas finished 16th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:50.90.
- In the final event, the 400 freestyle relay team of Zerfas, sophomore Delaney Graham, sophomore Sabrina Butler and junior Emma Cole was sixth in 3:56.08.
- In the preliminaries, Sabrina Butler had a lifetime-best time of 57.75 seconds in the 100 freestyle.
