Swimming & diving teams finish day three of MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams have finished day three of the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, held inside the Holland Aquatic Center. Entering tomorrow’s final day, the Comet men sit in fifth-place with 159 points, while the women are in sixth-place with 118 points.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming & diving teams have finished day three of the 2017 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, held inside the Holland Aquatic Center. Entering tomorrow's final day, the Comet men sit in fifth-place with 159 points, while the women are in sixth-place with 118 points.
FOR THE MEN
- Freshman Zach Meharg was 16th in the 400 individual medley with a season-best time of 4:33.19.
- Sophomore Bryan Plesner finished in 13th-place in the 100 butterfly, recording a lifetime-best time of 57.08 seconds.
- Sophomore Lucas Bunn scored 16th-place points with a time of 1:01.36 in the 100 butterfly.
- Freshman Eric Wood completed the 200 freestyle in a season-best time of 1:47.22 to place 11th.
- Senior Zak Gray posted a career-best time of 1:05.39 to finish 14th in the 100 breaststroke.
- Sophomore Kody Garcia finished 15th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.59. In the prelims, he swam a season-best time of 1:01.99.
- Freshman Tom Decker did not advance to the finals of the 100 butterfly but he had a season-best time of 1:06.11 in the preliminaries.
- Meharg, Gray, Plesner and Bunn swam to a fifth-place time of 1:46.29 in the 200 medley relay.
- Senior Bryce Prudden was 10th in the three-meter diving with 351.80 points, while freshman Dalton Miner placed 11th with 345.50 points.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Senior Nicole Zerfas was 16th in the 400 individual medley with a lifetime-best time of 5:20.06.
- Sophomore Samantha Butler had a time of 1:09.56 to place 16th in the 100 backstroke. During the prelims, she went 1:09.05 for a career-best performance.
- Despite not making the finals, sophomore Sabrina Butler posted a career-best time of 1:08.73 in the 100 butterfly.
- Samantha Butler, sophomore Delaney Graham, Sabrina Butler and freshman Amelia Tomalka were sixth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:03.66.
UP NEXT
- The final day of the championships gets under way tomorrow morning with preliminaries at 10 a.m., and finals in the same events at 5:30 p.m. Events include the 1,650 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and women's 1-meter diving.
