Three players named to 2005 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Central Region softball teams

Three Olivet College student-athletes have been selected to the 2005 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region softball teams. Senior outfielder Jill Shufelt (Millington) and senior catcher Beth Shunkwiler (Berrien Center/Berrien Springs) were named to the first-team while senior shortstop Jenn Newland (Tekonsha) earned second-team honors.

McIntosh and Schoen named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV second-team

Olivet College sophomore catcher Nick McIntosh (Petoskey) and sophomore third baseman Katelan Schoen (Climax Scotts) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV baseball and softball second-team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America.

Five softball players earn All-MIAA honors

Five Olivet College student-athletes have been named to the 2005 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) softball teams. Junior pitcher Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City), senior shortstop Jenn Newland (Tekonsha) and senior catcher Beth Shunkwiler (Berrien Center/Berrien Springs) earned first-team honors. Freshman first baseman Jessica Schmansky (Clarkston/Waterford Our Lady of Lakes) and senior centerfielder Jill Shufelt (Millington) are second-team selections.

Softball team suffers two heartbreaking losses in 2005 MIAA Tournament

The softball team suffered two heartbreaking losses today in the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament at Scots’ Park in Alma. In their first game, the Lady Comets fell to top-seed Alma College, 1-0. Against Hope College, Olivet rallied for six runs in the top half of the seventh inning, but allowed a run in the bottom half of the frame and lost, 7-6.

Junior Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Pitcher of the Week for April 24-30. She is being honored for the second time this season.

Softball team splits doubleheader with Alma

The softball team split a doubleheader with nationally-ranked and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Alma College today in Olivet. Senior Beth Shunkwiler (Berrien Center/Berrien Springs) drove in the game-winning run as Olivet rallied to win the first game, 5-4. Alma bounced back to win the nightcap, 5-1.

Softball team sweeps Tri-State, 6-2 and 6-5

The softball team swept a doubleheader from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Tri-State (Ind.) University this afternoon in Olivet. The Lady Comets (21-11, 10-4 MIAA) won the first game, 6-2. In the nightcap, Olivet tallied two runs in the seventh inning for a 6-5 come-from-behind victory.

The softball team swept a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader at Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College. The Lady Comets won the first game, 7-3, and came back to win the nightcap, 12-4.

Softball team sweeps Rochester, 5-0 and 10-0

Behind two outstanding pitching performances and an offensive explosion, the softball team posted a pair of shutout victories today at non-league foe Rochester College. In the first game, junior Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City) pitched a two-hitter as the Lady Comets (17-11) beat the Warriors, 5-0. In the nightcap, freshman Kim Green (Portland) tossed a no-hitter and Olivet tallied 17 hits in a 10-0 win.

The softball team lost two games to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Calvin College this afternoon in Grand Rapids. The Lady Comets (15-11, 6-4 MIAA) were shutout, 2-0, in the first game and lost the nightcap, 6-4.

Softball team uses long ball to sweep Adrian, 8-7 and 9-1

The softball team swept a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader from Adrian College this afternoon in Adrian. In the first game, the Lady Comets (15-9, 6-2 MIAA) hit three home runs to defeat the Bulldogs, 8-7. Olivet scored seven runs in the fifth inning and won the nightcap, 9-1.

The softball team swept a doubleheader from Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College this afternoon in Olivet. Junior Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City) pitched a no-hitter as the Lady Comets won the first game, 12-0. In the nightcap, Olivet tallied 18 hits en route to a 17-1 victory.

Softball team loses twice to Grand Valley, 4-3 and 7-3

The softball team lost two games to NCAA Division II foe Grand Valley State University (GVSU) today in Olivet. A seventh inning rally in the first game came up short as the Lady Comets fell 4-3. In the nightcap, Olivet had an 8-6 advantage in base hits but the Lakers outscored the Comets, 7-3.
