Track & Field: Olivet competes in three last chance meets
OLIVET, Mich. – Over the last week, six student-athletes from The University of Olivet men's and women's track & field teams have competed in three different last chance meets in Michigan and Ohio.
On Wednesday, freshmen Austin Cole and Owen Fremeau participated in the Hillsdale College 13 Event Last Chance Meet. Cole finished in eighth-place in the shot put and discus throw. His mark, 137 feet, in the discus throw was a season best. Fremeau fouled in each of his three attempts in the discus and hammer.
The duo then competed today (Saturday) at the Grand Valley State University 10 Event Last Chance Meet. Fremeau had much more success, as he broke the school record in the discus and hammer. Fremeau's mark in the hammer was 164 feet, 2 inches; and his mark in the discus was 155 feet, 10 inches. Cole posted the fifth-best mark in school history in the shot put at 47 feet, 10-1/2 inches.
Last night, four Comets traveled down to Berea, Ohio, for the Baldwin Wallace University Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet.
Senior Jordon Brown ran in the 200-meter dash. He was 11th of 52 runners in the race, with a time of 21.76 seconds. Brown's season-best time in the event is 21.02 seconds, which is 10th on the NCAA Division III Performance List. His season-best time of 47.19 seconds in the 400-meter dash sits 14th on the performance list.
Freshman DeVondre Chandler cleared the high jump bar on his first attempt at 6 feet, 5-1/2 inches. He then failed to get over the bar at the next height. Chandler is currently tied for 23rd on the NCAA DIII Performance list with 6 feet, 8-1/4 inch clearance.
Senior Chris Davis finished 18th of 82 runners in the 1,500-meter run. His time, 3:54.39, was a season best but slower than his school record time of 3:53.18.
Junior London Eldridge placed sixth of 21 runners in the 400-meter hurdles. Her time, 1:05.19, was a little less than 3/10th of a second slower than her school record time of 1:04.91.
The student-athletes with the top 22 performances will be invited to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 23-25 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
