Two wins and 12 personal-best performances for track and field teams at Margaret Simmons Invitational

MURRAY, Ky. – The Olivet College men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for two wins and 12 personal-best performances, as the Comets started off their outdoor schedules by competing in the 2023 Margaret Simmons Invitational, hosted by Murray State (Ky.) University. The Comet men finished third (of 12 schools) with 88 points, while the women were eighth (of 15 schools) with 38 points.

MURRAY, Ky. – The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams combined for two wins and 12 personal-best performances, as the Comets started off their outdoor schedules by competing in the 2023 Margaret Simmons Invitational, hosted by Murray State (Ky.) University. The Comet men finished third (of 12 schools) with 88 points, while the women were eighth (of 15 schools) with 38 points.

  • Senior Jordon Brown took first in the 200-meter dash, stopping the clock at 21.99 seconds. He also finished third in the 100-meter dash in 11.18 seconds, just two-hundredths slower than his personal best.
  • Junior Hunter Hillard ran a personal-best time of 15:59.54 in the 5,000-meter run.
  • The other personal best time achieved on the track was by sophomore Kameron Newman in the 200-meter dash at 23.30 seconds.
  • Senior John C Downey Senior John C Downey competed in the decathlon and scored 3,829 points to finish second.
  • The 4x400-meter relay placed second (3:32.53).
  • The rest of Olivet's personal best marks were accomplished in the field events.
    • Sophomore Aaron Garcia in the discus throw (95 feet, 2 inches) and javelin throw (95 feet, 5 inches)
    • Junior Zach Liddle in the discus throw (100 feet, 8 inches)
    • Senior Byron Pearce in the hammer throw (143 feet, 3 inches) and shot put (46 feet, 3/4 inches)
    • Junior David Sinkler in the hammer throw (133 feet, 1 inch)

  • The lone win for Olivet was by the 4x800-meter relay team of junior Tonya Tepin, freshman Sarah Grove, junior Lily Connelly and junior Allyson Stevens. Their time was 10:48.09.
  • Sophomore London Eldridge completed the 200-meter dash in a personal-best time of 28.02 seconds.
  • Senior Gabby Jolliff posted a personal-best outdoor mark of 10 feet, 10 inches in the pole vault.
  • Junior Ashley Santo finished third in the hammer throw (136 feet, 5 inches) and discus throw (119 feet, 3 inches). The mark in the hammer throw is a personal best.

  • Olivet is back in action Saturday, April 1, when it participates in the George Glass Invitaitonal, hosted by Taylor (Ind.) University.
