Brown, Chandler and Fremeau named to All-MIAA Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Team
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Senior Jordon Brown along with freshmen DeVondre Chandler and Owen Fremeau from The University of Olivet have been tabbed to the 2024 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Outdoor Track & Field Team. All-league honors are given to event winners from the 2024 MIAA Field Day.
Brown won the 200- and 400-meter dashes at the championships. He clocked-in with a MIAA and school-record times of 21.02 seconds in the 200 and 47.19 seconds in the 400. In addition, Brown placed second in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 9-1/2 inches.
Brown is now a four-time All-MIAA Outdoor Track and Field team selection. He is a four-time league champion in the 400-meter dash and two-time champion in the 200-meter dash. When you combine his four All-MIAA citations in indoor track & field, he is the first eight-time All-MIAA honoree in school history.
"Jordon had one of the most decorated MIAA Track & Field careers of any Olivet athlete," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "He won the outdoor 400 four years in a row and ran faster each year. Along the way during his outdoor career, Jordon added other conference titles in the long jump, 200 and 4x400 relay. But what really stands out about Jordon is the person he developed into over the past four years. He matured and was a true leader for his teammates and competitors from other teams."
Chandler took first in the high jump at the championships with a winning height of 6 feet, 5-1/2 inches. At the championships, he cleared the bar on the second attempt at the first two heights he jumped at. The runner-up finisher failed to clear the next height, but Chandler was able to get over the bar on his first try. Earlier this season, he broke the school record with a clearance of 6 feet, 8-1/4 inches. Chandler also won the high jump at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in February.
"After an All-American Indoor season, DeVondre continued to get better during the outdoor season as he strove to jump higher and higher," said Lutzke. "He makes high jump look easy and we believe he is just getting started with mastering his event. Winning indoor and outdoor high jump as a freshman shows the future is bright as long he continues to put in the work."
Fremeau captured the league title in hammer throw with a winning and personal-best mark of 161 feet, 6 inches. He also finished fifth in the discus throw (136 feet, 10 inches). Earlier this outdoor season, Fremeau broke the school record in the discus throw at 154 feet, 9 inches. His hammer mark sits second all-time at Olivet, just eight inches shy of tying the school record. Fremeau's best mark this season in the shot put (47 feet, 7-1/2 inches) ranks sixth in school history.
"Owen continued to improve each meet and this meet was the one to shine in the hammer throw," said Lutzke. "He was able to get some outstanding throws in and pull away with the win. We expect Owen to be a contender in multiple throwing events over the next few years."
