The University of Olivet wins MIAA Men’s Indoor Athlete of the Week awards, again
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – For a second straight week, senior Jordon Brown and freshman DeVondre Chandler from The University of Olivet are the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Indoor Athletes of the Week awards. Brown is the Track Athlete of the Week, and Chandler is the Field Athlete of the Week for their performances at the Wittenberg University / Steemer Showcase.
Brown, a graduate of Niles High School, took first of 71 runners in the 400-meter dash, breaking the school record with a time of 47.93 seconds. He also placed third of 102 runners in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.88 seconds. The two runners who finished ahead of him were from an NCAA Division II school.
"Jordon is off to an incredible start to his senior season in his first two indoor meets," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "He continues to build off of his strong base from the fall and his years of track and field experience."
Chandler, a graduate of Bath High School, claimed first place and broke the school record in the high jump for a second consecutive week. His winning height of 6 feet and 7-3/4 inches is tied for eighth on the NCAA Division III Indoor Performance List.
"DeVondre continues to get better with every practice and meet," stated Lutzke. "This is only his second year of high jump, and the goal continues to be to jump consistently."
The Comets return to competition Friday and Saturday, February 9-10 at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet.
