Men’s soccer team defeats Manchester (Ind.), 4-3, in season opener

The Olivet College men's soccer team defeated Manchester (Ind.), 4-3, this afternoon at the Manchester College Tournament. Freshman Alan Holdorf (Novi High School) led the Fighting Comets with two goals and an assist. Junior Rudy Pulido (Holt High School) had two assists.

Olivet jumped out to a 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals in a span of just over two minutes. At the 38:03 mark, freshman Andrew Lansang (Rock Springs, Wyoming) scored the first goal off a cross pass by freshman Ryan Scott (Williamston High School). At the 40:08 mark, Holdorf scored with Pulido receiving credit for the assist. Fourteen seconds later, the Spartans cut the deficit to 2-1 with a header off a free kick.

Holdorf made the score 3-1 in the 48th minute off another cross by Pulido. After Manchester added a goal in the 49th minute, junior Gabe Pringle (Grand Blanc High School) found the back of the net on a pass by Holdorf at the 51:02 mark. The Spartans closed the scoring with a goal in the 54th minute.

In the game, Olivet outshot Manchester, 14-13. Holdorf had six shots. Junior goalkeeper Will Drogt (Kewadin/Elk Rapids High School) played the entire game, making five saves.

The Comets will play Moody Bible (Ill.) Institute tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. EST.
