Three football players have been named to the 2004 Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Division III All-North Region teams. Sophomore offensive guard Josh Van Laan (Caledonia/South Christian) is a first-team selection while junior tight end Josh Ewing (Hopkins) and junior offensive center Mike Pfeister (Bellevue) are third-team choices.

Sigler retires as Olivet College’s head football coach; Livedoti named successor

Olivet College Head Football Coach Irv Sigler has announced his retirement from coaching, effective immediately. A 1965 Olivet graduate, Sigler said the decision to leave his alma mater is based on health issues and the desire to spend more time with his family. Dominic Livedoti, who served as assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator under Sigler the last three years, has been named the Comets’ new head coach.

Football team beats Albion, 58-35, for the first time since 1975

Olivet College junior Travis Sleight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) scored a school and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) single-game record seven touchdowns as the Fighting Comet football team defeated MIAA rival Albion College, 58-35, this afternoon before 4,244 fans at Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium and Morley Fraser Field in Albion.

Football team defeats Wisconsin Lutheran, 52-28, for fourth straight win

The Olivet College football team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Wisconsin Lutheran College, 52-28, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. With the win, the Fighting Comets (7-2, 4-2 MIAA) won their fourth straight game, and the seven victories are the most since 1991 when they also won seven games.

Football team defeats Kalamazoo, 42-20, for third straight win

The Olivet College football team won its third straight game today with a 42-20 victory at Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College. With the win, the Fighting Comets (6-2, 3-2 MIAA) secured a winning season for the second time in three years and only the fourth since 1974.

Olivet College sophomore fullback Drew Neilsen (Belding High School) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday’s 33-22 win over Adrian College.

The Olivet College football team snapped an eight-game Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) losing streak with a 33-22 win over Adrian College this afternoon before 1,735 Homecoming fans at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. Olivet last won a MIAA contest on Nov. 16, 2002.

The Olivet College football team lost a heartbreaker, 21-18, to Alma College in its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) opener this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The Scots earned the victory after Jeff LaPorte made a 38-yard field goal with three seconds left.
