Dean Trailways Comets of the Week - May 6, 2024
The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is senior Jordon Brown, of Niles, and graduate of Niles High School. At the 2024 MIAA Field Day, Brown won the 200- and 400-meter dashes in school and MIAA championship record times at 21.02 and 47.19 seconds, respectively. On the track, he also ran the anchor leg of the second-place 4x400-meter relay and seventh-place 4x100-meter relay. In the field events, Brown finished second in the long jump (21 feet, 9-1/2 inches).
The Dean Trailways Co-Male Comet of the Week is senior Gabriel Kirck, of Grosse Pointe Woods, and graduate of De La Salle High School. Kirck recorded a .364 batting average and 1.091 slugging percentage in helping the baseball team win two of three games against Trine (Ind.) University. He hit a three-run homer to help the Comets to a 4-2 win in the opener and then another three-run dinger to push Olivet past the Thunder, 4-0, in 12 innings in the middle game. In the last game of the series, Kirck had a pair of two-run doubles. Defensively, he played an errorless series, making zero errors in 40 chances at first base. Kirck’s two home runs and 10 RBI helped him break the career records for those categories.
The Dean Trailways Female Comet of the Week is junior London Eldridge, of Stanton, and graduate of Central Montcalm High School. At the MIAA Field Day, Eldridge captured the league title in the 400-meter hurdles in a school record time of 1 minute and 4.91 seconds. She also placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles at 15.94 seconds. Lastly, Eldridge ran on the second-place 4x400-meter relay and fourth-place 4x100-meter relay. Both relays achieved school record times at 4 minutes and 5.62 seconds for the 4x4 and 50.36 seconds for the 4x1.
