Bio
James E. “Rocky” Pobursky packed eight seasons of
athletic excellence into his college days at Olivet, excelling in
both football and baseball.
In football he lettered all four years and was nominated to the
MIAA All-League team his junior and senior years. As a senior,
Pobursky was voted the Comet’s Most Valuable Player and was
named to the Associated Press All State Small Defensive Team as a
linebacker.
On the diamond he was no less outstanding. He lettered four
straight years as a catcher. He batted .425 and was Comet MVP for
three years, MIAA All-League for three years, MIAA MVP for one
year, and was selected as an All-American in 1965 by the American
Association of Baseball Coaches. He played on the first team to win
a baseball championship for a Olivet in 57 years.
He earned a M.A. from Eastern Michigan University and became a
teacher and coach.
To recognize his exceptional achievements, Olivet College has
inducted him into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
