Michael Maciasz was an outstanding Comet Basketball player who
achieved the honors of leading scorer and Most Valuable Player for
four consecutive seasons--1969-1972. He still holds the scoring
record with a four-season total of 1,640 points. As co-captain in

Head Coach Gary Morrison credited him with being the single player
most responsible for the championships level of basketball at
Olivet. Maciasz was an All MIAA selection from 1970 to 1972 and
league MVP in 1972.
An excellent student, Maxiasz graduated in 1972 with a B.A. in
Economics. He went on to be a teacher and coach at Lakewood High
School, where he continued to inspire young people on the
basketball floor and their personal lived. The 1977-78 Comet
Co-Captains, Mike O’ Mara and Al Westendorp, both played for
Maciasz at Lakewood.
In observance of his remarkable contributions to Olivet College
and his continued inspiration of young people, he was inducted into
the Olivet College Athletic Fall of Fame.
