Bio
You were a four-time NCAA All-American and All-MIAA selection in the swimming pool for the Comets. As a freshman in 2008, you were the MIAA champion and placed 11th at the NCAA Championships in the 100 backstroke. As a sophomore in 2009, you finished eighth in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championships. As a junior in 2010, you improved one spot to place seventh in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championships. As a senior in 2011, you won the 100 and 200 backstroke at the MIAA Championships and finished 16th in the 100 backstroke at the NCAA Championships. You still hold the Olivet records in the 100 and 200 backstroke at 50.16 and 1:51.20, respectively, and swam the backstroke leg on the school-record 400 medley relay.
Your success in the pool carried over into the classroom. You graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA in mathematics and received Olivet’s Donald A. Morris Award for being one of the top five seniors. You were a two-time recipient of the Elite 88 award, presented annually to the student-athlete with the top GPA competing at the NCAA Championships. You were a four-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll and CSCAA Scholar All-America recipient. In 2010 and 2011, you were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Men’s At-Large First Team and CoSIDA Academic All-America® Men’s At-Large First Team. In 2011, you were voted the CoSIDA Academic All-America® of the Year for the College Division Men’s At-Large program.
During your time at Olivet, you were an active member of Mathletes, Comet Christian Fellowship, Washington Gladden Society and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
After leaving Olivet, you served as an assistant swimming coach at Hope College for one season. You then moved to Sunbury, Ohio, to become an assistant swimming and diving coach at Denison University. Following the
2019-20 season, you were promoted to associate head coach. During your time there, the Denison men have won three NCAA Division III Championships to go along with three runner-up finishes. The Denison women have recorded seven top-four finishes at the national championships. You also continued your education and earned a master’s degree in recreation and sports sciences from Ohio University in 2015.
Olivet honors you and is proud to induct you into the Olivet College Athletic Hall of Fame on this 8th day of October, 2021.
