OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet softball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in both games of a doubleheader this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The doubleheader was a tale of two games, as the Belles won the first game, 22-1, in five innings and then took the nightcap in a pitcher's duel, 2-1.
- Final Scores: Saint Mary's 22, Olivet 1 (5); Saint Mary's 2, Olivet 1
- Location: Cutler Athletic Complex; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 1-11 overall, 0-4 MIAA; Saint Mary's 4-12 overall, 2-2 MIAA
- After going down 1-2-3 in the first inning, the Belles scored an unearned run in the second inning. Saint Mary's added five more runs in the third.
- The Comets scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Hannah Cron led off with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a ground out and crossed the dish on freshman Olivia Burt's ground out.
- The Belles batted around twice and plated 13 runs in the fourth inning and capped their scoring with a three-run fifth.
- Olivet finished the game with just two hits – Cron's single and a double by freshman Alexis Bond.
- Three pitchers combined to throw five innings, allowing nine earned runs on 19 hits and two walks.
- Saint Mary's had a good scoring chance in the second inning. With runners on the corners, the Comets escaped the inning with a line drive double play.
- Olivet had its first opportunity to score a run in the third. After freshman Michelle Michelin roped a two-out double to deep center field, she went to third on a passed ball. The threat ended with a lineout at second base.
- The Belles left runners stranded in scoring position both the fourth and fifth innings. The Comets were able to get out of the jams to keep the score at 0-0.
- Olivet was finally able to dent the scoreboard in the top of sixth. Michelin drew a walk on a full count. Senior Brielle Broderick sacrificed her to second base. After the second out was recorded, freshman Alexis Bond hit a bloop single into shallow left field. Michelin hustled around the bases to score the game's first run.
- Saint Mary's used a two-out double to put a pair of runners in scoring position. The tying run came on an infield single, and the go-ahead run scored on an error. Three Comet ground outs concluded the game.
- Olivet tallied three hits – one each for Bond, Michelin, and sophomore Mattie Akom.
- In the circle, Michelin went the distance. She gave up the two runs (one earned) on nine hits, while striking out three.
- The Comets travel to Adrian on Thursday to play Siena Heights University for a rescheduled doubleheader, starting at 3:30 p.m.
