The MIAA Tournament was started in 2011, and for the first seven years, only the top four teams in the final regular season standings advanced to play in the tournament. In 2018, the tournament expanded to the top six teams in the regular season, with the top two seeds receiving byes in the first round. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 MIAA Tournament was moved and played in the spring of 2021 and all eight teams were allowed to participate. In the fall of 2021, the tournament moved back to being the top six teams participating, with the top two seeds receiving a bye.
