Olivet stings Kalamazoo in four sets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team beat Michigan Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College in four sets this afternoon inside the Anderson Athletic Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Olivet defeated Kalamazoo 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 25-12

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hornets held a 7-4 lead in the first set. The Comets chipped away at their deficit before tying the score at 9-9, 10-10 and 11-11. Kalamazoo answered with a 7-2 run to take an 18-13 lead. Olivet responded with an 11-0 run for a 24-18 lead. The Hornets scored the next two points, but a Kalamazoo attack error ended the set in the Comets' favor.
- In the second set, the Hornets used a 6-0 to turn a 7-3 deficit into a 9-7 lead. Late in the set, Olivet trailed by one point, 20-19. The Comets did not get any closer for the rest of the set.
- Kalamazoo built a five-point lead, 13-8, in the third set. Olivet fought back to take a 20-18 lead. Three Comet attack errors put the Hornets ahead 21-20. Olivet answered with its own 3-0 run to go up 23-21. The teams traded points to get to set point for the Comets. A kill by sophomore Julia Hall closed out a 25-23 win for Olivet.
- After a 2-2 deadlock in the fourth set, Olivet put 10 consecutive points on the scoreboard. The Comets did not trail for the remainder of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Abi Nunez recorded a match-high 18 kills.
- Hall tallied 14 kills, with zero errors on 24 attempts for a .583 attack percentage. She also had four blocks – three solo and one assisted.
- Senior Hayleah McFadden finished with 10 kills.
- Senior Teagan Giannunzio dished out 44 set assists.
- Junior Jaydn Cary topped the defense with 28 digs.
