Olivet sweeps Grace Christian

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team swept Grace Christian University in a non-conference match tonight at the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets built an early 4-2 lead in the opening set. The Tigers came back to take their own two-point lead twice. After the second time at 7-5, Olivet responded with a 5-1 run to regain the lead, 10-9. Grace Christian answered with a 7-3 spurt for its largest lead of the set, 16-13. The Comets took advantage of a Tiger attack error and two service aces by senior Abi Nunez to even the score. The teams traded points to create two more tied scores at 17-17 and 18-18. Olivet then scored the final seven points of the set to win 25-18.
- In the second set, the Comets used a 4-0 run to turn a 4-3 deficit into a 7-4 advantage. The Tigers fought back to go up three points on two occasions. Following the second time at 17-14, Olivet went on a 5-0 spurt to take the lead back 19-17. The Comets did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-19.
- Olivet jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set. Grace Christian battled back to trim its deficit down to two points, 10-8. Two Comet aces and kills pushed the Comet advantage back to six points. Three Tiger kills made the score 14-11. Grace Christian closed the gap one more time to three points, 21-18, but did not get any closer for the remainder of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the match, Olivet had 45 kills to 26 for the Tigers. The Comets served 13 aces compared to four for Grace Christian.
- Nunez topped both teams with 16 kills.
- Senior Hayleah McFadden also reached double digits in kills with 11. She had only two errors on 20 attempts for a team-best .450 attack percentage.
- Junior Morgan Good tallied six kills.
- Playing just the first two sets, senior Teagan Giannunzio tallied a match-best 26 set assists.
- Sophomore Grace Grew and senior Madison Johnson split time at setter for the third set and had seven and four assists, respectively.
- Junior Jaydn Cary led the defense with 14 digs, followed by senior Maddie Reyolds with 11.
- Reynolds registered a team-best three service aces.
UP NEXT
- The Comets play three matches at the Bluffton University Sommer Center Spiketacular. On Friday, Olivet faces Hilbert (N.Y.) College at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Comets play Wilmington (Ohio) College at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Penn State University-Behrend (Pa.).
