Women’s Volleyball: Olivet swept at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. –The University of Olivet women's volleyball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Adrian College in three sets tonight at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center. The Bulldogs won three close sets, 25-21, 25-20 and 25-21.

- The Comets built a four-point lead, 14-10, in the opening set. The Bulldogs answered with a 7-1 run to go up 17-15. Adrian stretched its advantage to five points, 21-16. Olivet cut its deficit in half, 24-21, before an Adrian kill ended the set.
- In the second set, the Comets went ahead by three points twice at 6-3 and 7-4. The Bulldogs responded with a 9-3 spurt to take their own three-point lead at 13-10. Adrian pushed its lead to four points, 19-15. Olivet closed the gap to a single point twice. After the last time at 20-19, the Bulldogs closed the set on a 5-1 run.
- The early part of the third set was back-and-forth. The Comets took the largest lead for either team at 16-13. Adrian scored the next three points to level the score before seizing a two-point lead at 19-17. A kill, followed by back-to-back service aces for senior Morgan Dillon helped Olivet take a 20-19 lead. Three straight Bulldog points put them ahead 22-20. The Comets scored a point to make the score 22-21, but Adrian used two kills and an Olivet attack error to win the set, 25-21.
- For the match, Adrian finished one more kill, 39 to 38. The difference in the match was the Bulldogs had 12 less attack errors.
- Senior Olivia DuFore slammed down a match-high 14 kills, while posting a .222 attack percentage.
- Junior Abi Nunez tallied eight kills.
- Dillon finished the match with seven kills and three service aces.
- Junior Teagan Giannunzio dished out 31 set assists.
- Sophomore Jaydn Cary led the defense with 24 digs. She also had three aces.
- Junior Maddie Reynolds collected 14 digs.
- Olivet hosts Lake Michigan College tomorrow for an exhibition match. The Comets resume their MIAA schedule next Tuesday, October 10, at Albion College. Both matches have a 6:30 p.m. start time.
