Women’s volleyball team posts 1-1 record on day one at Mount Mary Autumn Classic
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet College women’s volleyball team had a 1-1 record in the first day of the Mount Mary University Autumn Classic in Milwaukee. After losing a five-set match to Maranatha Baptist (Wis.) University, the Comets rebounded to beat the host Blue Angels in four sets.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Olivet College women's volleyball team had a 1-1 record in the first day of the Mount Mary University Autumn Classic in Milwaukee. After losing a five-set match to Maranatha Baptist (Wis.) University, the Comets rebounded to beat the host Blue Angels in four sets.
- Final Score: Maranatha Baptist defeated Olivet 22-25, 26-24, 20-25, 25-16, 16-13

- Early in the first set, the Comets built a pair of four-point leads. After the last time at 7-3, the Sabercats fought back to take their own four-point lead twice. Maranatha led 21-18 before Olivet ended the set on a 7-1 run to win it by a 25-22 score. For the set, the Comets posted a .214 attack percentage compared to .032 for the Sabercats.
- Olivet raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second set. The Comets extended their lead to as many as eight points on two occasions. Following the final time at 14-8, the Sabercats chipped away at their deficit and eventually tied the score at 23-23. Olivet scored the next point, but Maranatha scored the next three points to win the set 26-24. All three of the Sabercat points were the result of Comet attack errors.
- The third set was like the second, which Olivet led 5-0. Maranatha came back with a 5-1 run to even the score. After the Comets went ahead 8-6, the Sabercats scored six of the next nine points to go up 12-11. A service error tied the score, followed by four consecutive Olivet points made the score 16-12. The Comets maintained their lead despite Maranatha trimming it down to one point, 20-19. Olivet closed the set on a 5-1 run to win it 25-20.
- The fourth set saw the Sabercats take a pair of five-point leads. The Comets closed the gap to a single point, 10-9. Olivet would not get any closer, as Maranatha went on to win the set, 25-16, to force a fifth set.
- In the fifth set, the Comets led 8-4 when the teams traded sides of the court. The Sabercats answered with a 9-2 run for a 13-10 lead. Olivet fought back with three straight points to level the score at 13-13. Maranatha got to match point before a Comet kill evened the score at 14-14. Back-to-back Sabercat kills ended the set and match in their favor.
- Senior Ellie Louiselle shared match-high honors with 15 kills.
- Freshman Violet Porter tallied 13 kills and posted a team-best .429 attack percentage.
- Junior Olivia DuFore and sophomore Alia Riehl were next with nine kills apiece.
- Sophomore Madison Johnson dished out 39 set assists.
- Junior Emily Keeler and senior libero Jill Arends finished with 18 and 17 digs, respectively.
- Mattie Bumpus had 15 kills, followed by Arielle Cooper with 11.
- Emily Johnson collected 31 set assists.
- Marri Reid recorded 16 digs.

- Mount Mary had a wire-to-wire lead in the first set, with its largest lead being eight points.
- In the second set, the Blue Angels went ahead by seven points, 17-10. The Comets scored the next point on a service error. That point ignited a 10-1 Olivet run fueled by four aces (two each for sophomores Kayin Harper and Lillian Peron) and five kills (two each for Louiselle and DuFore, and one for Porter). The Comets continued to lead until Mount Mary tied the score at 23-23. A kill by Riehl and a Blue Angel attack error gave the set win to Olivet.
- The Comets and Mount Mary traded the first two points of the third set. Olivet then went on a 7-1 run to make the score 8-2. The Blue Angels trimmed their deficit to a point, 9-8, but not any closer for the rest of the set.
- Mount Mary scored the first two points of the fourth set. The Comets answered with three consecutive points before the Blue Angels leveled the score at 3-3. A 4-0 Olivet run followed by a 3-0 Mount Mary run created a 7-6 score. A service error put Olivet ahead 8-6 and the Comets' lead stayed at least two points for the remainder of the set.
- For the match, Olivet had 46 kills compared to 31 for Mount Mary. The Comets also had five more aces, 14 to 9 and 16 more digs, 69 to 53.
- DuFore and Porter recorded 12 kills apiece.
- Louiselle also reached double figures with 11 kills.
- Johnson posted team-highs in set assists (38) and aces (4).
- Harper also served four aces.
- Keeler notched a match-high 19 digs.
- Arends and DuFore had 17 and 12 digs, respectively.
- Kaitlyn Powers finished with a team-best 10 kills.
- Emma White tallied 17 set assists.
- Ava Ramos had 18 digs.
- Olivet remains in Milwaukee to play Alma College tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
