Women’s volleyball team swept at Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Olivet College women's volleyball team lost in straight sets to Defiance (Ohio) College in a non-conference match tonight inside the Karl H. Weaner Community Center in Defiance, Ohio.

- In the first set, the Comets built a six-point lead, 10-4. Five straight Defiance points made the score 10-9. Olivet maintained the lead until the Yellowjackets used a 3-0 spurt to switch a 19-17 deficit into a 20-19 lead. The Comets scored the next point to level the score. Another 4-0 run put Defiance ahead for good, 24-20.
- The start of the second set was like the first set, as Olivet led by six points, 12-6. The Yellowjackets responded with a 7-1 run to tie the score at 13-13. The Comets answered by scoring three of the next four points to go ahead 16-14. Defiance came back with an 8-2 spurt to take the lead and did not relinquish it for the rest of the set.
- Except for three tied scores, the Yellowjackets had a wire-to-wire lead in the third set.
- Senior Ellie Louiselle recorded a team-leading seven kills.
- Junior Morgan Dillon had six kills.
- Senior Kennedy Blackburn collected 14 set assists, while sophomore Madison Johnson had nine assists.
- Senior Jill Arends topped the defense with 15 digs.
- Kaylynn Wellman slammed down a team-best seven kills.
- Kendra Kline and Courtney Maxwell finished with 12 and 11 set assists, respectively.
- Hope Yost registered a match-high 18 digs.
- Olivet is co-hosting a tournament with Albion College. On Friday, the Comets play Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University at 4 p.m., and Illinois College at 8 p.m. On Saturday, Olivet faces Wilmington (Ohio) College at 10 a.m. and Wheaton (Ill.) College at 2 p.m.
