Women’s volleyball team defeated by Kalamazoo in four close sets

The Hornets won the first set 25-19 before the Comets won set two, 25-22. Kalamazoo claimed wins in sets three, 25-19, and four, 27-25.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's volleyball team dropped a four-set Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) match to Kalamazoo College this evening at the Cutler Event Center. The Hornets won the first set 25-19 before the Comets won set two, 25-22. Kalamazoo claimed wins in sets three, 25-19, and four, 27-25.

- In the opening set, the Hornets built a four-point lead, 18-14. Olivet then used a 5-1 run to level the score at 19-19. Kalamazoo ended the set by scoring the final six points.
- The Hornets led by five points, 8-3, in the second set. The Comets came back with an 11-1 run to take their own five-point lead. Kalamazoo fought back to tie the score twice. After the last time at 21-21, Olivet put four of the final five points on the scoreboard to win the set.
- In the third set, the Comets held a four-point advantage, 8-4. Olivet maintained the lead until the Hornets leveled the score at 10-10. After trading the next points to create a pair of tied scores, 11-11 and 12-12, five straight Kalamazoo points made the score 17-12. The Comets were never able to recover from that deficit.
- In the fourth set, Olivet used a 4-0 run to go from being down 11-8 to lead 12-11. The Hornets battled back to lead by two points on four occasions. Following the last time at 19-17, a Kalamazoo attack error and two kills by senior Mia Parker put the Comets ahead 20-19. Olivet then went ahead by two points twice, 22-20 and 24-22. Two Hornet kills and a service ace got them to set point. The Comets saved one set points with a kill by freshman Morgan Dillon. Two Kalamazoo kills ended the match.
- For the match, Olivet posted a .111 attack percentage. The Comets had 47 kills, with 27 errors, on 180 attempts.
- Senior Audrey Lama led the way with 15 kills.
- Dillon was next with 10 kills.
- Junior Jordyn Emelander and sophomore Ellie Louiselle each had seven kills.
- Freshman Makenna Slack recorded 31 set assists.
- Junior Drue Mullin tied for match-high honors with 32 digs.
- The Hornets recorded a .152 attack percentage. Kalamazoo tallied 48 kills, with 23 errors, on 164 attempts.
- Madi Goodman led all players with 16 kills.
- Lindsey Nedd and Megan Williams registered 11 kills apiece.
- Rorie Daugherty dished out 42 set assists.
- Taylor Ferguson tallied 32 digs.
- Mullin's 32 digs is the eighth-most in school history for a single-match, regardless of the number of sets played. The 32 digs is the third-most in school history for a four-set match.
- Olivet hosts Adrian College Friday night at 6:30 p.m.
