Women’s volleyball team has 1-1 record at Scarlet Hawk Invitational
The Olivet College volleyball team had a 1-1 record this morning at the Scarlet Hawk Invitational, hosted by Illinois Tech and inside the Keating Sports Center in Chicago. After being swept by Anderson (Ind.) University in three sets, the Comets rebounded to sweep the host Scarlet Hawks in three sets.

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Olivet College volleyball team had a 1-1 record this morning at the Scarlet Hawk Invitational, hosted by Illinois Tech and inside the Keating Sports Center in Chicago. After being swept by Anderson (Ind.) University in three sets, the Comets rebounded to sweep the host Scarlet Hawks in three sets.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Anderson def. Olivet
Location: Keating Sports Center; Chicago, Ill.
Records: Olivet 5-14 overall, Anderson 8-12 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets' only lead in the first set was 1-0.
- Olivet never had a lead in the second set.
- The Comets opened the third set by scoring the first three points. Anderson came back to take an 8-7 lead. Olivet came back with a 6-2 run to go up 13-10. The Ravens battled back to tie the set twice, 14-14 and 15-15. The Comets went on a 6-1 scoring spurt to take a 20-16 lead. Olivet continued to hold the lead at 23-21. Anderson scored the next three points to gain a 24-23 lead. The Comets saved two match points, causing a 24-24 and 25-25 tie. The Ravens scored the final two points.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Courtney Cronkright led all players with 14 kills.
- Sophomore Madelyn Notenbaum tallied a team-best 27 set assists.
- Sophomore Gabrielle Mundt posted a team-high 15 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team led by more than two points in the early stages of the opening set. With the Comets holding a slim 7-6 lead, Olivet scored seven straight points to go up 14-6. The 10-point margin of victory was the Comets' largest lead of the set.
- The Scarlet Hawks held a 2-0 lead in the second set. Olivet put seven of the next nine points on the scoreboard for a 9-4 lead. The Comets pushed their lead to as many as 11 points, 22-11, before settling for the eight-point advantage at the end.
- Olivet never trailed in the third set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Brittney Prince had 10 of Olivet's 31 kills.
- Cronkright was next with seven kills.
- Notenbaum recorded a team-leading 18 set assists and 11 digs.

- The Comets three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association matches next week at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. Olivet plays Kalamazoo College on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Calvin College on Friday at 7 p.m. and Hope College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
