Volleyball team splits two matches at Kalamazoo Hornet Invitational
The Olivet College volleyball team split its first two matches of the 2008 season this afternoon at the Kalamazoo College Hornet Invitational. The Comets opened play with a four-set loss to Anderson (Ind.) University, 25-23, 25-16, 24-26, 26-24. They bounced back to beat Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College in a thrilling five-set match, 25-7, 25-18, 17-25, 27-29, 15-12.

They bounced back to beat Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College in a thrilling five-set match, 25-7, 25-18, 17-25, 27-29, 15-12.
Against Anderson, sophomore Ellen Schulz (Freeland) topped the team with 10 kills. Senior Mackenzie Heator (Union City) was next with nine kills. Sophomore Jenessa Hicks (Union City) tallied 22 set assists. Defensively, freshman Whitney Reitz (Hillsdale) had a team-high 12 digs, while senior Natalee Singleton (Sand Lake/Lakeview) was close behind with 11.
Against B-W, senior Lindsey Tarrant (Metamora/Oxford) had an outstanding match, recording a team-high 17 kills and .367 hitting percentage. She also had 17 digs and two blocks. Hicks finished with 22 set assists and Singleton posted a team-high 22 digs. Schulz recorded five blocks, including three solo.
With the split, Olivet will play in the pool of second-place teams. At noon, the Comets will play Trine (Ind.) University and at 2 p.m., they will play Franklin (Ind.) College.
