Volleyball team splits its first two matches of the 2007 season
The Olivet College volleyball team split its first two matches of the 2007 season today at the Earlham (Ind.) Quaker Classic in Richmond, Ind. The Comets opened the day with a 30-27, 30-13, 30-20 loss to University of Dubuque (Iowa). They bounced back to beat Manchester (Ind.) College 30-21, 30-25, 30-26.

The Olivet College volleyball team split its first two matches of the 2007 season today at the Earlham (Ind.) Quaker Classic in Richmond, Ind. The Comets opened the day with a 30-27, 30-13, 30-20 loss to University of Dubuque (Iowa). They bounced back to beat Manchester (Ind.) College 30-21, 30-25, 30-26. Olivet will play the host Quakers tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., followed by a 2 p.m. match against Taylor-Fort Wayne (Ind.) University.
For the day, freshman Ellen Schulz (Freeland) led the Comet front row attack with 21 kills. Junior Mackenzie Heator (Union City) posted 14 kills, including 11 against Manchester. Sophomore Jennie Malm (Bridgman) tallied eight kills against Manchester. Freshman Jenessa Hicks (Union City) finished with 55 set assists. Defensively, junior Ashley Adams (Brighton/Hartland) had 36 digs.
After tomorrow's matches, Olivet will host Hope College Tuesday, Sept. 4, to open Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play. The match will start at 6:30 p.m.
