Volleyball team defeats Kalamazoo in play-in match of 2005 MIAA Tournament
The Olivet College volleyball team defeated Kalamazoo College 30-27, 30-21, 30-22, tonight in the play-in match of the 2005 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament. The Comets (7-24) advance to play top-seed Hope College in the quarterfinals tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

Leading the Olivet front row attack was senior Katie Schaum (Marshall), who had a team-high 13 kills. Freshman Sydney Kuipers (Charlotte) posted 12 kills, zero attack errors on 25 attempts for a .480 hitting percentage. At the service line, freshman Courtney Lewis (Battle Creek/St. Philip) had six aces.
Sophomore Jessica Petkus (Milford) recorded a team-high 40 set assists and 14 digs. Lewis and sophomore Meghan Smith (Rochester Hills/Adams) also had double digit digs with 11 and 13, respectively.
