Volleyball team drops five-game match to Adrian
The Olivet College volleyball team lost a five-game match to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Adrian College tonight at the Upton Center in Olivet. After the Bulldogs (17-6, 9-5 MIAA) won the first two games (30-25 and 30-27), the Comets (5-21, 4-11 MIAA) bounced back to win the next two (30-20 and 30-26). Adrian closed out the match with a 15-13 win in game five.

Olivet had three players post double digit kills and freshman Sydney Kuipers (Charlotte) led the way with 17. She was followed by freshman Theresa Martin (Charlevoix) and senior Katie Schaum (Marshall) with 14 and 12, respectively. Martin had one attack error in 32 attempts for a team-high .406 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Jessica Petkus (Milford) recorded 48 set assists. Six players finished with double digit digs and sophomore Meghan Smith (Rochester Hills/Adams) collected a team-high 20. Junior Kara Brinker (North Branch) was next with 19, followed by Kuipers and Schaum with 15 apiece.
The Comets will travel to Grand Rapids this Friday-Saturday, Oct. 29-30, to participate in the Calvin College Midwest Invitational. In its first match, Olivet will play a MIAA match with the host Knights at 2 p.m. The Comets' second match is at 8 p.m. against Anderson (Ind.) College. Following Friday's matches, the teams will be re-seeded to determine Saturday's matches.
