Volleyball team splits two MIAA matches at Alma
The Olivet College volleyball team split two matches today in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tri-match at Alma College. The Comets (5-20, 4-9 MIAA) fell to the host Scots in three games (30-22, 30-27, 30-27) and bounced back to beat Kalamazoo College in three games (30-27, 30-28, 30-24).

The Olivet College volleyball team split two matches today in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) tri-match at Alma College. The Comets (5-20, 4-9 MIAA) fell to the host Scots in three games (30-22, 30-27, 30-27) and bounced back to beat Kalamazoo College in three games (30-27, 30-28, 30-24).
Against Alma, freshman Sydney Kuipers (Charlotte) recorded a match-high 14 kills, three service aces and four blocks. Senior Katie Schaum (Marshall) was next with seven kills. Sophomore Jessica Petkus (Milford) finished with 26 set assists while sophomore Meghan Smith (Rochester Hills/Adams) had a team-high 20 digs.
The win against Kalamazoo snapped an eight-match losing streak. In the win, Schaum posted a team-high 16 kills, followed by Kuipers with 14 and junior Kara Brinker (North Branch) with six. Petkus added 43 set assists. Smith topped the defense with 24 digs. Brinker along with freshman Courtney Lewis (Sand Lake/Lakeview) each recorded 14 digs.
Olivet hosts Adrian College Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Upton Center in Olivet at 7 p.m.
