Volleyball team falls to Calvin in five games
The Olivet College volleyball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Calvin College in five games tonight at the Upton Center in Olivet. After winning the first two games (33-31, 30-25), the Comets lost the next three games (30-27, 30-27, 15-11).

Freshman Sydney Kuipers (Charlotte) led the Olivet front row attack. She had 19 kills and three errors on 53 attacks for a .302 hitting percentage. She also tallied seven blocks. Also recording double digit kills was senior Katie Schaum (Marshall) with 14, freshman Theresa Martin (Charlevoix) with 12 and junior Kara Brinker (North Branch) with 11.
At the service line, Schaum had a team-high six aces. Sophomore Jessica Petkus (Milford) had a team-high 56 set assists and 31 digs. Sophomore Meghan Smith (Rochester Hills/Adams) collected 24 digs.
Olivet (3-9, 2-1 MIAA) is next in action Saturday, Sept. 24, when it participates in a MIAA Tri-Match at Adrian College beginning at 10 a.m. The order of the matches is Hope versus Olivet, Hope versus Adrian and Olivet versus Adrian.
