Volleyball team loses two matches at the Elmhurst College Invitational
The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Elmhurst (Ill.) College Invitational. The Comets fell to the University of Wisc.-River Falls 30-15, 30-25, 30-24, in their first match and ended the day with a 30-24, 30-18, 30-18 loss in the second match against Nebraska Wesleyan University.

The Olivet College volleyball team lost two matches today at the Elmhurst (Ill.) College Invitational. The Comets fell to the University of Wisc.-River Falls 30-15, 30-25, 30-24, in their first match and ended the day with a 30-24, 30-18, 30-18 loss in the second match against Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Against River Falls, senior Katie Schaum (Marshall) led the offensive attack with nine kills. Freshman Theresa Martin (Charlevoix) and junior Kara Brinker (North Branch) had seven and six kills, respectively. Sophomore Jessica Petkus (Milford) had 24 set assists while sophomore Meghan Smith (Rochester Hills/Adams) tallied a team-high 13 digs.
Against Nebraska Wesleyan, Martin and freshman Mackenzie Heator (Union City) topped the team with eight kills apiece. Petkus added 23 set assists. The defense was led by Smith with seven digs.
Olivet is next in action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10, when it participates in the Hanover (Ind.) College Tournament. The Comets open pool play Friday afternoon with a 6:45 p.m. match against DePauw (Ind.) University, followed by a 8:30 p.m. match against Franklin (Ind.) College.
