Volleyball team defeats Tri-State, loses to Calvin
The Olivet College volleyball team had a 1-1 record this afternoon in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) triangular at the Calvin Fieldhouse in Grand Rapids. In their first match, the Lady Comets defeated Tri-State (Ind.) University 30-20, 30-27, 30-25. In its second match, Olivet fell to Calvin College 30-15, 30-12, 30-15.

In their first match, the Lady Comets defeated Tri-State (Ind.) University 30-20, 30-27, 30-25. In its second match, Olivet fell to Calvin College 30-15, 30-12, 30-15.
Against Tri-State, freshman Alicia Barton (Jackson High School) had a match-high 14 kills with one attack error in 24 attempts for a .542 hitting percentage. Junior Katie Schaum (Marshall High School) and freshman Marie Pierce (Climax-Scotts High School) recorded 12 kills apiece for the Lady Comets (7-22, 2-12 MIAA).Freshman Jessica Petkus (Milford High School) topped the team with 47 set assists and 17 digs.
Against Calvin, freshman Katie Fiero (Jackson High School) had four kills, followed by Pierce and Schaum with three each. Freshman Meghan Smith (Rochester Adams High School) led the defense with 14 digs. Petkus was next with 10 digs along with a team-high 12 set assists.
Olivet is next in action Tuesday, Oct. 26, when it hosts Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at the Upton Center at 7 p.m.
