The volleyball team opened its 2004 season with a 30-20, 30-27, 30-20 loss against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College tonight at the Upton Center.

Junior outside hitter Katie Schaum (Marshall High School) led the Lady Comet front row attack with 11 kills. Freshman outside hitter Marie Pierce (Climax-Scotts High School) had eight kills with zero errors in 18 total attempts for a .444 hitting percentage. Schaum topped the defense with 16 digs followed by first-year players Jessica Petkus (Milford High School) and Meghan Smith (Climax-Scotts High School) with 10 apiece. Petkus had a team-best 23 set assists.
Olivet is next in action this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 3-4, when it participates in the Oberlin (Ohio) College Tournament. The Comets open play on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Grove City (Pa.) College followed by a 7 p.m. match against the host Yeowomen. On Saturday, they play University of Pitt.-Greensburg (Pa.) at 9 a.m.
