Lady Comets finish in fourth place at the Oberlin (Ohio) College Tournament

The Olivet College volleyball team opened the 2003 season with a fourth-place finish at the Oberlin (Ohio) College Tournament. For her efforts in the tournament, senior Erin Graham (Alpena High School) was named to the all-tournament team.

On Friday evening, the Lady Comets defeated the University of Pitt-Greensburg (Pa.), 19-30, 31-29, 30-20, 30-26 before falling to to Bethany (W. Va.) College, 30-24, 30-14, 30-20.

This morning, Olivet ended pool play with a 30-26, 32-30, 27-30, 30-27 win against the host Yeowomen. The Comets fell to Ohio Wesleyan, 30-25, 30-25, 30-23, in the third-place match.

In the four matches, Graham led the front row attack with 53 kills, .331 hitting percentage and 19 blocks, including nine solo blocks. She recorded a career singe-match high 22 kills against Oberlin. Junior Jamie Hutchison (Freeland High School) recorded 43 kills. Junior Jenna Little (Ortonville Brandon High School) paced the team with 49 set assists and was followed closely by freshman Sarah Geasler (Laingsburg High School) with 45. Defensively, sophomore Ashlie Mainwaring (Berrien Springs High School) had a team-high 28 digs. Geasler topped the squad with nine service aces.

The Lady Comets are now idle until Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they travel to Angola, Ind. to play Tri-State University at 7 p.m.
