Women’s Track & Field: Eldridge and Johnson lead Olivet at MIAA Field Day

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Junior London Eldridge and sophomore Natalia Johnson both qualified for two finals to lead The University of Olivet women's track and field team on day one of the 2024 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day. The championships are being hosted by Calvin University and at the Gainey Athletic Complex in Grand Rapids.
- Following six events, the Comets are fifth with nine points. Hope College tops the leaderboard with 70 points, followed by Calvin (64), Trine (Ind.) University (61) and Albion College (23).
- Eldridge advanced to tomorrow's finals in both hurdle events. She posted the fastest time in the 400-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 1:05.52. Her 100-meter hurdle time of 16.13 was sixth-fastest.
- Johnson broke the school record in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She had the fourth-quickest time in both events, 12.63 seconds in the 100 and 26.18 seconds in the 200.
- Junior Emily Norkowski joins Eldridge in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles after clocking-in with the fourth-fastest preliminary time at 15.92 seconds.
- Freshman Morgan Jeffries joins Johnson in the 100-meter dash finals after recording the eight-fastest prelim time at 13.27 seconds.
- Senior Abbey Peters placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She crushed the school record with a time of 11:1.65. The previous record was 11:45.72.
- Junior Berniah Alexander scored fifth-place points in the shot put with a personal-best heave of 37 feet, 5 inches.
- In the 400-meter dash, senior Lily Connelly and younger sister, Aubrey Connelly, have both qualified for tomorrow's finals after posting season-best times. Lily was fifth-fastest at 1:01.07 and Aubrey was seventh-fastest at 1:01.80. Aubrey's time moves her up to eighth all-time in school history. Also, in the 400-meter dash, senior Tonya Tepin had a personal-best time of 1:03.70.
- In the 800-meter run, senior Allyson Stevens was ninth-fastest with a personal-best time and third-fastest time in school history at 2:26.07.
- The second day of the MIAA Field Day is tomorrow. The finals in the field events get under way at 12 p.m., followed by track event finals at 3:30 p.m.
